Welcome to Summit Middle School Theatre Technology Wiki! Course Objective: Use the IB MYP Design Cycle to produce a set, props, and costumes for a play.
The Design Cycle
The Design Cycle is a process used for creating a product. Here you will find all the information you need to complete your project. This wiki is a portfolio of your learning and will demonstrate your newly acquired knowledge. Artistic skills are not essential. What is important is how you follow the steps of the design cycle to produce your set, props, and costumes.
Step One - Select a play--choose one of the following options:
Select a play from teacher's pile
Bring in your own script (purchased or downloaded) – must be approved
Step Two - Read the play and take notes All design begins with reading the play and determining theme, style, and mood. This is the basis for theatrical works. Secondly, characters must be analyzed in order to know who they are and their purpose in the play. Finally, take notes on specifically stated requirement for the set, props (set props, trim props, and hand props), costumes, etc.
These tasks are part of your INVESTIGATION and you will use this information to generate designs in each production area. This information is part of the INVESTIGATE phase of the design cycle. These notes will be put on the investigation page.
Step Three - Set up Wiki Create a page for each area of production:
Portfolio: Each technical design should have it's own page within your project wiki. Each group will present their wiki to the class during the last 3 classes in December. Requirements and directions regarding www.wikispaces.com will be on a separate handout and be explained during an in-class demonstration. Training Camp Video
